A 4-week introduction to Iyengar Yoga

New to yoga? Begin with the foundations.

The Beginner Course is a 4-week, 75-minute course designed for students who are new to yoga or new to the Iyengar method. Classes are held in the Yoga Mandir studio, where students receive clear, individual instruction in a supportive environment.

Iyengar Yoga places emphasis on precision, alignment, sequencing, timing and the use of props. These principles provide a clear framework for learning the asanas and developing awareness through practice.

The physical practice is a starting point. As we learn to observe the body, breath and mind, yoga offers an opportunity to develop greater attention, steadiness and clarity. With regular practice, these qualities can extend beyond the mat and into everyday life.

The four-week course establishes the essential foundations of Iyengar Yoga and prepares students to continue into Yoga Mandir’s Slow Paced, Foundation and Asana classes.

No previous yoga experience is required. Yoga is for everybody, regardless of age or level of fitness.
