In collaboration with Light-On-Yoga. International (LOY.i) Alan will return to Germany in August 2026 to teach a 3-day workshop on the Karmendriyas in Lantershofen, (Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler).
Karmendriyas
The karmendriyas are the five faculties of action: speech, hands, feet, organs of elimination, and organs of reproduction. In yogic thought they are not simply physical organs, but the means through which intention, habit, desire and intelligence are expressed into the world.
This three-day workshop will explore the karmendriyas as a practical field of study. Through asana, pranayama and reflection we will observe how action arises in the body, how it is directed by the mind, and how it may become either mechanical or conscious. The hands grasp, the feet move, speech expresses, and the organic functions reveal deeper patterns of impulse, restraint and release. Each action discloses something of the inner condition.
In the practice of yoga we learn not merely to act, but to witness our actions. The karmendriyas provide a way of studying the relationship between perception, intention and response. As the body becomes steady and the senses more refined, action can be brought under the guidance of intelligence. Practice then becomes a means of simplifying, clarifying and purifying action, so that what we do is no longer driven only by habit, but shaped by awareness.
