Kevin Gardiner is originally from New York where he began his journey in yoga. He started studying Iyengar Yoga in the early 1980s and commenced teaching actively from 1982 onward. Over the years, he has undertaken multiple extended study periods in India with members of the Iyengar family (B.K.S. Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Prashant Iyengar) to deepen his understanding and skill.

In the United States, Kevin was a co‑founder of the Iyengar Institute of Greater New York, serving in various leadership roles on its executive committee. (Mary Dunn was one of his primary teachers in the U.S. community, and he cites her as a major influence in his development.)

Until December 2006, Kevin maintained his own yoga studio in Manhattan. After that, he married Erika (also a certified Iyengar teacher) and relocated to Budapest, Hungary, where together they run the Amrita Yoga Center.

Kevin holds a Senior Intermediate I teaching certificate (granted by B.K.S. Iyengar).  Over the years he has taught workshops widely—through North America, Europe, and in his ancestral home of Ireland.

In his work in Budapest, Kevin continues to teach classes, lead intensives, mentor teachers, and maintain his relationship with the Iyengar tradition.
