Are there prerequisites for teacher training.
Yes, Iyengar Yoga Australia requires those entering teacher training to have practiced Iyengar Yoga regularly for a minimum of three years or 300 hours of classes with an Iyengar certified teacher prior to commencing training.
Can I enrol in Teacher Training if I live outside of Canberra
Yes, our Teacher Training Program provides for both local and interstate enrolment. Those wishing to enrol are advised to do a Prospective Applicant intensive (run four times per year) in-person prior to applying.
How do I apply to become a trainee in the Yoga Mandir Teacher Development program?
Practitioners wishing to apply to become a trainee at Yoga Mandir should submit an expression of interest (EOI) via email to training@yogamandir.com.au by 1 January for the start-of-year intake and 1 July for the mid-year intake. Include details of your yoga background, including teachers and practice and a brief note about age, health, family situations that may either support or create obstacles within your study. On receipt of an expression of interest we will either provide an application form for enrolment into the program or make a recommendation for your ongoing development towards teacher training.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend classes or a 5-day early morning intensive prior to applying.
What is a prospective applicant intensive?
Alan runs a five-day morning (Mon-Fri) intensive in the middle of each term. Iyengar yoga students considering training with Alan are advised to enrol are encouraged to attend a 5-day intensive conducted by Alan to experience the teaching environment, the levels in the classes and discuss your interest in the program directly. This is particularly relevant for prospective applicants from outside of Canberra.
There is one intensive per term with a total of four intensives throughout the year.
Can I participate in Teacher Development if I am already a trainee with another Iyengar Yoga teacher?
Within the Iyengar Yoga system in Australia, teacher training is undertaken with one primary trainer. If you are currently training with another teacher, we recommend that you discuss with your current teacher trainer any interest in supplementing or extending your training.
