Teacher Development
Learning to be a teacher of yoga starts with a practice.
Training to become a teacher is conducted over time. It takes dedication and perseverance. Developing a depth of understanding and learning to communicate from direct experience is a lifelong journey.
At Yoga Mandir our program to train teachers is grounded in a commitment to practice and is an expression of, and contribution to community. Working alongside colleagues, under the guidance of experienced teachers, day by day and week by week.
Trainees based in Canberra assist teachers in weekly classes, whilst those who live remotely access material online to support their own practice inquiry. The group as a whole meet to work together over a 7-day period developing skills, identifying strengths and weaknesses and supporting one another to evolve as individuals and as teachers.

Yoga Vidya subjects include categories for philosophy, pranayama, teaching theory, Yogasana, asana, along with our class archives and independent practice programs.
Most subjects apply the Learn/ Study/ Practise framework where students Learn: review key definitions in the subject area through articles and readings, Study: listen to lectures by teachers in our lineage as well as expose ourselves to other voices and opinions through articles, and Practise: to recorded classes on a weekly basis over the 10 week term.
Term focus
Although all our subjects can be enrolled at any time within the TD program we focus on one Core and one Elective subject each term. These term focus subjects are aligned with Reflective Practice- Sessions (RP-S) scheduled in weeks 2 and 8. The RP-S sessions are classes booked on the Yoga Mandir timetable and can be attended via a monthly pass, class card or paid as an individual class.
To increase the level of interaction and exchange within each subject RP-S sessions we encourage participants to lodge reflective practice statements to the forums in each subject. within the subject.
