New Students

Yoga Mandir offers a diverse range of programs and classes for students of all ages and abilities.

Practitioner Programs

Our 10-week Yogasana course immerses students in the principles (philosophy) and practice of Yoga, and provide a staged pathway for learning. 

Open Classes

Everyone is welcome at an Open class; those new to yoga, students who want to experience Iyengar yoga, regular students within the school as well as interstate and international visitors. Open classes provide an alternative for students who travel regularly or for other reasons are unable to attend a Practitioner program. They provide an opportunity for students to deepen and diversify their practice.

Early Morning Dynamic Program

Yoga Mandir's Dynamic class & membership option is for those individuals who are looking for an active one hour class to develop greater strength and mobility. These are dynamic yoga classes and are not appropriate for students with significant injuries or medical conditions. The focus is on movement based asanas and uses the Surya Namaskara cycles (salute to the sun) to engage with many of the other groups of asanas. Our focus on the use of sequence and repetition is invigorating and removes stiffness.

Children/ Young Adults

Let your child experience the benefits of Yoga. Children’s classes are designed to be fun and energetic, with a focus on body awareness, concentration and relaxation. The sequences of yoga asanas will let children experience joy and freedom.

There are two classes one for 5-8 year olds with Demeter Davis and the other for 9-14 year olds with Sally Mumford. Both classes will be held at the same time to provide greater flexibility for families with children of different ages. Each class is 45 minutes as part of a 10-week enrolment during public school terms.

Yoga in ACT Colleges/ Schools

Since it opened in January 2005, Yoga Mandir has been delivering the highest quality of Yoga instruction to the Canberra community. We are pleased to be expanding our offering to include students in the ACT College system in years 11 and 12.

Over the coming year we hope to partner with ACT colleges to provide Yoga as an elective subject as part of the weekly school program. For colleges to trial the program, we are offering a 3 week introduction option so that students and staff can experience the benefits of Iyengar Yoga.
